Semarang - Indonesia, Central Java

Kana Vanilla continues its commitment to SDGs and community-based development through its partnership with local women’s farmer groups, including KWT Bina Mandiri Miroto. This initiative focuses on introducing cultivation of various food crops, including vanilla beans, demonstrating that high-value agriculture does not require large plantations to create meaningful economic income. It can all start from a simple backyard.

Through this program, Kana Vanilla provides training and guidance on cultivating vanilla in limited backyard spaces alongside household food crops. The approach allows participants to capitalize on available land while strengthening both household sustainability and income.

Vanilla is often referred to as “green gold” due to its high global market value, it is a highly sought after spice globally (2nd to Saffron) because of how rare and versatile it is. Learning how to cultivate vanilla offers an opportunity for local communities to earn extra income to support their families and build long-term economic sustainability.

Beyond its premium price, natural vanilla is a powerhouse of versatility. Its reach extends far beyond, Vanilla is used in the food and beverage sector (flavoring, baking, etc), providing natural antioxidants for the pharmaceutical industry, and serving as a key ingredient in cosmetic products. By bringing this high-value crop into urban backyards, we are helping local communities tap into the diverse global market without needing a dedicated agriculture farming space.

This initiative is at the heart of our mission to "elevate the quality of life" through agribusiness practices that deliver a "measurable social and environmental impact". By prioritizing the increased participation of women in the value chain, we are not just sourcing beans; we are actively supporting SDG 5 (Gender Equality). We believe in leading by example, which is why we dedicated ourselves to ensure every bean meets our rigorous HACCP and food safety standards.
At Kana Vanilla, we aren't just growing vanilla; we are growing a community where premium quality and social responsibility go hand in hand.
